Is a third eye connected in any way with the pineal gland? If the latter is proven to be an atrophied photoreceptor, does this really mean that mysteries about the third eye come from a scientifically proven reality? Can we take Buddhism, Hinduism, and the New Testament (Matthew 6:22), stating that “The Eye is the lamp of the body,” not as fairy tales?

I am probing the question of the controlled connection between external reality, human organs, and human perception. With this organ (the pineal gland), which, for many reasons, is deactivated in the majority of people, we could perceive higher levels of reality.

Layered Reality

I do not wish to imply that there is only one reality. Even if there were only one reality, it would have many layers. There is one reality with one layer for each individual. There are precisely as many layers (realities) as individuals are observing them. If confused, you can refer to Dan Dennett’s “Multiple Draft” theory (Dennett, 1991)

As a matter of fact, there are many more layers of reality than individuals if we take such a layer as a truth. According to my theory of intersubjectivity, the truth emerges as something intersubjectively agreed upon. So the number of truths, the number of layers of reality, is vastly larger than the number of individuals.

But my intention here is not to elaborate once again about the intersubjective nature of the truth, but to prove that scientific confirmation of the third eye as an organ that perceives those levels of reality that our five senses cannot perceive is not only possible but in fact necessary.

Colour as a Higher Dimension for Cats

The fastest way to show such necessity is to ask ourselves: how come this connection has not yet been scientifically explained? The science did not prove it, but its possibility was ridiculed in all mainstream post-Cartesian science. The explanation is quite simple: If you take for granted that what humans perceive IS all that there is, then one can not even open a question of another reality. Our science strives to see (with our five senses and reliable tools like microscopes and telescopes…) ever smaller and ever larger parts of reality. Therefore, our five senses, aided by the brain’s cognitive power, constitute the limiting factor in the perception of reality. There is an apparent trap in the tool, in our five sense organs.

Check the latest thesis by example. Let us pretend that we are cats. Cats see in black and white. And there comes a cat that has heard that there exists an organ, called the human eye, that can see a higher dimension, which they, humans, call colour.

Pineal Gland for the Science

The main limiting factor in our development is the sad truth that, even 200 years after Darwin, we still cannot understand him. While we humans are among the latest evolutionary results, that does not mean we are the ultimate result. But since we subconsciously see ourselves as the ultimate result, we cannot expect to see anything beyond the scope of the five senses. And as science is the primary building block of such naive rationalism, the third eye cannot be taken seriously by science, which at the same time understands the Pineal gland as an atrophied photoreceptor. That is also why science is prohibited from entering the field of spirituality.

Evolution has no ultimate result. We are not a kind of fixed background for reality; no less is reality fixed for us. All results of evolution are partial and temporary, meaning not fixed. Each participant (species, individuum, organ, cell…) in evolution has a partial view of reality. Thus, there is a necessity for multiple draft theories. Thus, we should be happy and eager if there is an option for a new tool (organ) to reveal a new draft of this reality. The fact that I have not yet developed my third eye as a sense organ is not an argument against its potential. It would be like refuting the validity of quantum mechanics, since I do not understand quantum equations to the last detail, nor have I ever seen a quantum particle.

Only after science opens the possibility of a third eye, as depicted in the mentioned spiritual traditions, will it become actual science. But as true science, it will not resemble present science in the least. It will be a science that perceives with its pineal gland.

Descartes Error

Finally, we must recognize René Descartes as, in all likelihood, the principal culprit behind the misguided encounter between the various esoteric traditions and modern science. In a fervent search for the location of the soul, he placed it in the pineal gland. Esotericism, especially Kabbalah, understands reality on four levels (Manly P. Hall, 2018), with the lowest level (corporeal) being where the pineal gland exists. My research reached the second level, the memetic one within the concept of NOCEMA (Nonoverlapping Coevolved Magisteria) (Drapal, 2025), stemming from the work of evolutionary biologist S.J. Gould’s Nonoverlapping Magisteria (Gould, 1997). Megisteria do not overlap, so there is no chance of finding a soul attributed to the third (counting from the bottom) magisteria according to Kabbalah. Descartes’ claim created a harmful distraction that prevented one from realizing the verifiable function of the third eye.

We should understand the nonoverlapping magisteria thesis so that one cannot be reduced to another; however, that does not prevent the lower reality from perceiving higher realities. While the perception of the second reality, the one of memes, humans are already inborn, it is not so easy to reach the third level of reality with the help of Kaballa, meditation, and similar spiritualistic wisdoms, which is even more difficult for the fourth one. The latter was opened only for Buddha, Moses, and the like.
