Multiculturalism revised
A revised (rethinked) multiculturalism is necessary, not only because of the global spread of this meme, but also because it appears in several posts on this blog.
The bottom line
The bottom line is that despite there being so many arguments against multiculturalism as it is currently understood by MSM and progressivist intellectual elites, the cohabitation of different cultures is inevitable at almost any level.
Progressive multiculturalism
The trouble with the mainstream conception of multiculturalism is that it forces the cohabitation of cultures that do not fit together. Anything goes, according to progressive ideology. Or even better: anything should go, if not by will then by force.
Multiculturalism of an individual
The mosaic mind, explained by Goulding*, is the most basic example of multiculturalism. The mind of an individual is not homogeneous, but constantly shifting. The fact that our identities belong to various memetic fields is reflected in the constant struggle of an individual’s self to reconstruct them into something they can accept as their sole identity. If one cannot reconstruct various identities into a single one that he feels comfortable in, then he experiences a personality crisis out of which the disorder symptoms appear.
Various personal identities/cultures cohabitate as long as they do not belong to memetic fields with opposing value vectors that “resolve” only through cognitive dissonance. So long as such cognitive dissonance remains unconscious, it emerges through personality disorder symptoms. When memetic fields that occupy an individual’s self become apparent to that self, then the reorientation of the self occurs. The individual tends to keep his “global” identity field coherent by excluding those memetic fields/identities/cultures that are conceptually less compatible with the bulk of other memetic fields/identities/cultures.
One needs energy to balance a mosaic mind, to adjust and readjust various identities/cultures, since each identity, by definition, has its own value vector field, which also has repelling forces. There is an energy needed to resolve internal conflicts, leading to internal memetic peace. When the energy required to maintain conflicting internal cultures is greater than the available energy, cognitive dissonance emerges. Finally, when this dissonance is apprehended, the conflicting culture/identity gets expelled.
Social multiculturalism
The same logic applies to social multiculturalism.
Within each social entity, various social identities/cultures cohabitate as long as they do not belong to memetic fields with opposing value vectors. When such cultures oppose the prevailing/mainstream collective memetic field, and they remain unresolved, they instigate collective cognitive dissonance that is detected as social unrest, as collective trauma, and as a social functional disability. When memetic fields that occupy such a collective become apparent to that community, then the reorientation occurs. Cultures that do not fit are expelled.
If an external agent forces the mainstream culture to accept conflicting cultures within, the rejection is violent. If conflicting cultures readjust organically, then each culture “understands” that it is in its best interest not to spend excessive energy to align with a culture with opposing value vectors. Such is currently the case with multilateral/globalistic organizations, as I already explained. That is why Amartya Sen’s ** study of identity and violence misses completely.
Yet another option is that it is the agency of a particular identity/culture that tries to invade a culture with conflicting value vector fields. In such a case, currently visible in extremist Islamic cultures, we talk about tendencies to subjugate and finally eradicate invaded cultures. Such a situation corresponds to the case of biological viruses. Many viruses benefit a host; however, some ultimately kill the host. While human phenotypes, developed over millions of years of evolution, have created efficient detectors for almost all harmful viruses, memetic detectors for cultural viruses are much less efficient. This is not only because memes emerged much later than genes, but also because they mutate much faster.
The conclusion
All entities are multicultural: the individual, the family, the local community, the state, the nation, and the civilization. Each entity spends energy to keep cultures with different value vector fields in peace (together). The problem starts if identities/cultures are not conceptualized, symbolized, and, with that, brought from the unconscious to the conscious level. The current politically correct MSM culturalism is an external force that pushes Western culture into self-elimination. The extremist Islamism is, on the other hand, a virus that threatens that same Western culture to spend vital resources (energy) that could be used for the growth of its culture. Both trends together are fatal.
